HOSPITALITY AND DORMITORY

Doubletree Hotel
Formerly the Sheraton Spokane Hotel
Spokane, WA

MBB designed a 400-room, 13 story, reinforced concrete, full-service hotel and convention center in a premier location along the Spokane River, originally the Sheraton, now the Doubletree. Guest rooms function as both living/work and sleep areas by selection of furniture, use of interior wall, floor covering and type of lighting. Guest suites provide capability of combining individual rooms by interconnecting doors and movable walls. Design includes energy recapture provisions from waste heat from kitchen and laundry equipment. Meeting Banquet/Ballroom facilities total 15,250 square feet and can accommodate any configuration from 10 people to 1,200. Also on-site is a full range of restaurant formats that include a snack bar and coffee shop, bistro, full service specialty fine dining, and an entertainment lounge. The facility includes recreation areas, swimming pool and fitness center, administrative offices, laundry, parking and landscaping.

Dormitory Buildings 572/574
McChord Air Force Base, WA

Two new 70 person bachelor dormitories were designed to meet new criteria to enhance the quality of life for enlisted airmen. Instead of open bunk rooms or bedrooms shared by 2 to 4 people, this dormitory is designed with mini two-bedroom apartments featuring private sleeping, dressing, and vanity areas, shared bathrooms, and compact kitchen/eating areas. This kitchen design became a prototype for Air Force-wide Standard. Very low-maintenance, long-life materials were used to provide maximum sustainability.  Cost for Entire Project:   $9,450,000.
